Ingredients You Need
- 4-5 medium-sized fresh tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Bonus: Not an ingredient, but a nice jar to store it in!
How to Prepare
- Prepare the Tomatoes by washing them under running water. Cut a small “X” on the bottom of each tomato.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil then gently place the tomatoes in the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove the tomatoes and let them cool.
- Once the Tomatoes are cool to the touch, peel off the skin starting from the “X” then proceed to chop and dice the tomatoes into small pieces.
- Saute Onion and Garlic by firstly placing a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.Add olive oil, chopped onion, and minced garlic.
- Stir until the onion and garlic become soft and golden.
- Add the Chopped Tomatoes into the saucepan.
- Stir well to combine the tomatoes with the onions and garlic.
- Season the Sauce by sprinkling in the dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together to make sure the seasonings mix with the tomatoes.
- Simmer the Sauce by reducing the heat to low. Cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the sauce simmer for about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Safely taste a little bit of the sauce and see if it needs more salt or pepper. You can also add a pinch of sugar if it’s too tangy.
- You’re done! Add the sauce to a jar, or serve up accordingly with a basil garnish.
